Objective of Program:
Tech +T Certification is sponsored by The USCertify. The primary objective
of this organization, founded in 1994, is to offer a comprehensive
approach to troubleshooting problems associated with software,
hardware, operating systems, and other related PC issues

Tech +T Certification Standards: Tech +T members will be
required to have an understanding of the current methodologies used
to diagnose and troubleshoot PC problems as measured by
comprehensive exam. The exam will cover support for Windows 95T,
Windows 98T, networking, and optimizing the computer for maximal
performance. Passing of the certification exam will indicate a
winning ability to provide solutions in today's complex and
continually changing computer industry. Tech +T Certification Materials: Each Tech +T student seeking certification will be required to
obtain a copy of the 8th Edition or higher of Upgrading and
Repairing PC's, published by QUE, and available at most bookstores.
Questions for the exam will be drawn from this book, as well as
video tapes provided by the Institute, and will relate to actual,
day-to-day computer problems. The exam will be multiple-choice,
open-book, not timed, and can be retaken if necessary. A score of 95
or higher will demonstrate proficiency.

Tech +T Certification Coverage: Following
successful completion of exams, Tech +T certified members will have
a combination of methods of accessing information about IBM and IBM-
compatible computers. Such mastery will provide fast and effective
means of determining the repair and upgrade needs of a PC. Areas of
mastery include, but not limited to:
- Hard Drive Diagnostics: tips for configuring Hard
drive for storing and transferring data will be covered. In-depth
coverage of the format and fdisk commands will be explored with
respect to their usefulness in correctly setting up a hard drive.

Parallel/Serial Port Test:
ways of determining whether printer and mouse ports are defective
through loopback tests will be covered.
- Motherboard/CPU Test: the "heart" and "brain" of
the computer will be explored here with respect to determining
overall computer performance and board vs. chip compatibility
issues.
- BIOS Setup: tips for optimizing motherboard, RAM,
and processor or cpu resources will be addressed.
- IRQ & DMA Tests: System resource conflict
resolution will be explored.
- PC Assembly and Networking: Video tapes provided
as part of the course material will demonstrate how to assemble
and setup PC's, as well as the hardware and software setup of a
Windows-based LAN.
